Ari, 27, has worked in consulting for defense and homeland security solutions development since college. A Maryland native, he attended Berman Hebrew Academy and Churchill High School and spent time learning in Israel. Ari currently works in data science and strategy for Scale Up Global, a startup that specializes in bringing global cybersecurity innovation into the U.S. commercial and government markets. He loves science and philosophy, and the philosophy of science; he also loves basketball, hanging with friends, eating, learning Torah, playing guitar, cracking jokes, and singing and thinking about cross-domain problems and ideas.
Sara grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her parents, older brother and two dogs. She graduated from Ursinus college, a small liberal arts college just outside of Philadelphia, with a bachelor of arts in English and Media Communications in 2013. After working for the Jewish Social Service Agency for two years, Sara was hired by Sulam in the fall of 2016 to be the Development Manager. In this role, she oversees the acknowledgment process for all gifts, stewards relationships with current donors, and works to engage and cultivate potential donors to the organization. She also prepare grant proposals for foundations and work closely with Sulam’s Marketing Director to plan and execute fundraising events, including the Annual Gala.
Daniel Winchester has been living in Washington, D.C. since 2012. He grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and studied economics and French at Yeshiva University. Like a good millennial, Daniel manages a blog for an educational non-profit. He spends his free time reading, writing, and bloviating on Facebook, and his dream job is to write for The Onion. If you challenge him to a game of tennis or tiny-tennis (which some call “ping-pong”), he won’t be able to turn you down.
1.) Why did you agree to do this “Young Professionals Spotlight” interview with Kol HaBirah?
The only thing bigger than the illustrious launch of Kol HaBirah is my ego. It’s very important that people know things about me like, for example, what my most enlightening Buzzfeed Quiz result has been.
1.) Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
On the Supreme Court. Failing that, the MVP of the Superbowl. Gotta have a backup plan.
2.) Who is your real-life superhero?
Justice Thomas. He has an incredible life story and reached the highest heights in his profession. He consistently does what he thinks is right in the face of constant criticism and derision.
Anahi Hurtado is a political communications major at George Washington University. She’s originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and grew up in Miami Beach, Florida. She is the current graphic design and operations intern at the GW Hillel, where she is responsible for the weekly newsletter and produces videos. She is also a writer for the GW Ax, the school’s online satire publication. Anahi loves writing, the Washington Capitals, and Argentina’s national soccer team.
Shoshanah Belzer has been living in Washington, D.C. for eight years. She grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, and majored in interior design at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She works for a commercial real estate firm.
