Lauren Barney is 24 years old and hails from the great steel city and city of champions, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She currently lives in Washington, D.C., and is getting her master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

When she’s not studying conflict management and China studies or chillin’ on the Mall, Lauren loves to shoot hoops, play Frisbee with her fellow Kesherites, practice her Mandarin at Teaism, or dance the night away with “the limbs.” Lauren is also an avid fan of the color lavender.

What is your favorite college memory?

Completing a self-made scavenger hunt around the University of Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood with friends. We climbed things, scaled buildings, leap-frogged in the middle of a main street, and carried around a large cardboard box. We were notorious.

What is your drink of choice?

The Maneater.

If you could meet any political figure, who would you meet and why?

New Zealand’s newly elected Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. She makes sound and calculated decisions in both domestic and international work. She’s young, hip, and extremely accomplished, making her a great foil to the bevy of heads of state who are older men. #feminism #ijustpulledajohnoliver

How many countries have you visited?

Eighteen, I believe: Bangladesh, China, Thailand (Hong Kong), India, Korea, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Monaco, Aruba, Canada, U.K., and Israel.

What would you remind “future you” about 40 years down the road?

You were way hotter when you were 24.

Who was your first celebrity crush and why?

Aaron Carter, because who didn’t want candy?

What is the most important part of your morning ritual?

Davening. Like many Kol HaBirah readers, I mitigate international conflict on the daily, coordinate multilateral cooperation, and witness international hardship and issues with my own eyes, so it is very important to connect with G-d and thank Him/Her for the ability to wake up and go about my day in freedom in the U.S. and peace among friends.

What sports teams do you root for?

Love me my Steelers, Pens, Pirates, and Panthers, duh, but I also love my D.C. United and Hopkins Blue Jays, of course.

Fill in the blank: you’re never fully dressed without _______.

Hot arm candy.
