Kemp Mill-area residents have a new gathering spot, thanks to Chaim and Elli Pauli of Elli Chai’s One Stop Judaica Shop in the Kemp Mill Shopping Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
“We realized that we not only had the space to create a game room in our store, but the community also needed their own space to just chill together,” said co-owner Elli Pauli. So, the couple converted part of their store into a board game gallery.
For just $5 per person, participants can play any or all of over 100 board games — including a plethora of children’s games and adult strategy, mystery, and party games. In addition to the games and festive atmosphere, kosher snacks, 15 flavors of tea and coffee, and cold beverages are available for purchase. Food from kosher restaurants approved by the Vaad of Greater Washington is welcome. The Game Gallery is also available for a private party or event.
As it turns out, the Game Gallery has been popular with kids’ parents, many of whom have mentioned to the Paulis that they’re pleased their kids can go to a safe, indoor space that’s close to home.
“Kids, families, and friends seem to really be enjoying the Game Gallery,” said Elli Pauli. “And we like hearing them have fun; they bring great energy to the store. We’ve tried to make sure there is something for everyone ... so the entire community can benefit.”
The Game Gallery is open during the store’s regular business hours: Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5p.m.; Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Game Gallery can also be used outside of business hours with advance reservations.
