“That was insanely interesting,” “an incredibly informative and moving experience,” “thank you for bringing us here” — these were just some of the responses from MILTON sixth and seventh graders after the DC school’s two-day Civil Rights field trip to North Carolina and Virginia. Seeing sites important to the civil rights movement and engaging in hands-on learning added context to the middle school humanities study of the American civil rights movement and social justice. The itinerary included visits to the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro, North Carolina, the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, Virginia, and the Manassas National Battlefield Park.
